Sonatest expand their range of portable ultrasonic flaw detectors with the NEW Prisma UT, TOFD and PA instrumentSonatest Ltd43, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
Building on the success of their range of portable digital ultrasonic flaw detectors, the D Series, Sitescan and Masterscan instruments Sonatest are proud to launch the new Prisma ultrasonic flaw detector which comes in 2 major versions: conventional UT or conventional UT plus Phased Array and both can be offered with TOFD! Typical applications are broad but include weld inspection, corrosion mapping, aerospace and composite inspection.
The Prisma UT is an advanced portable ultrasonic flaw detector which shares many of the basic ultrasound performance of the highly popular Sonatest Masterscan series. In addition to the Masterscan it has 2 independent ultrasound channels with full waveform data recording and 2 axis encoding.
True to Sonatest`s design and product principles the Prisma provides a simple to use interface with additional wizards to further enhance it`s ease of use. The unit`s design and construction will ensure long and reliable use in the harshest of environmental conditions. In addition to the Prisma instrument which incorporates very powerful on board reporting capabilities there is UT Studio, PC based documentation and post inspection analysis software that provides even greater off line capability.
.Prisma can be easily located in awkward spaces and utilises a multi-position stand and hook, as well as a tripod mount and harness attachments. All removable covers are designed to be accessed, without tools, by gloved users.
Performance wise the Prisma has interface triggering capability with a fast PRF to allow use in high speed immersion, C-Scan applications; providing superior state of the art imaging allowing A, B and C scan displays to be viewed simultaneously with a multiple choice of display layouts taking advantage of the 8192 display resolution.
The Prisma UT is also a TOFD capable instrument simply by adding the TOFD software option it provides even greater inspection and imaging capability with no pre-amp required and lateral wave straightening and lateral wave removal featured. In addition the 16/16 phased array option can be selected which increases the probability of detection and also improves productivity significantly. The Prisma therefore is as simple as the user wants it to be but also as capable as the user needs it to be.
In terms of imaging, the Prisma UT/PA can show A-Scans, B-Scans, C-Scans in UT or PA. Then the user can add S and L-Scans in PA, as well as end view and true Top view. Other views available are Weld overlay, skip cursors, ray tracing, gates that are highlighted in S-Scans. The 3D scan plan feature which includes part, weld, wedge, probe, scan coverage assists with the setup and assessment of the results in a clear and easily understood manner.
Body material construction in the Prisma is carefully optimised, resulting in the lightest product of its kind on the market. All plastic components are marked to ISO standards for recycling. Designed for long life and durability, Prisma provides advanced technology and analytical capability in a compact, rugged, user-centric product.
The Prisma occupies quite a unique place in the world of ultrasonic flaw detection equipment in that it provides powerful tools for conventional ultrasonics but can be easily upgraded to provide the many benefits of PA and TOFD in a simple and user friendly format which is ideal for those new to the benefits of these technologies and techniques.
