Zetec introduces the TOPAZ – the first fully-integrated high-performance phased array UT device with multi-touch screen

Zetec88, Snoqualmie, WA, USA

Zetec is proud to introduce the TOPAZ – the first fully-integrated high-performance phased array UT device with multi-touch screen. Leveraging its long history of devoted support to the nuclear non-destructive testing industry, Zetec has put together field-proven PA UT hardware and software technologies and integrated them into a compact & rugged magnesium casing. This new-generation system allows breaking the barriers to truly-efficient data acquisition and on-board data analysis.

As PA UT is all about imaging, the quality of the embedded screen of portable PA systems is primordial. The TOPAZ is equipped with a 10.4” screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, which can display 64% more information than the 800 x 600 screens which at best equip the first-generation portable PA systems. Scratch-resistant protective glass now allows the integration of high-quality capacitive multi-touch screens into devices used in harsh environment, while providing enough sensitivity to operate them with working gloves on. With the TOPAZ, portable PA system users can for the first time truly benefit from touchscreen operation.

Its unique set of electronic specifications puts the TOPAZ in a completely different category than any other portable PA UT system currently available on the market. With configurations up to 32/128PR and equipped with 2 dedicated high-voltage conventional pulsers-receivers, the TOPAZ is able to provide the acoustic power required to tackle the most challenging applications. Data can be acquired more efficiently with up to 512 focal laws per setup and up to 700 MB per data file – and the integrated, field-rugged 128 GB solid-state drive allows safely storing all the data you need. Moreover, the 16-bit data resolution enables the use of software gain (either on-line or off-line) or amplitude range up to 800% FSH.

Using the latest Windows embedded operating system, the TOPAZ is equipped with a high-performance yet low-consumption dual-core processor and extended RAM memory. This improved computing power allows performing on the TOPAZ operations which could only be made on advanced analysis software before, such as volumetric merge operations, which greatly facilitates the interpretation of PA UT data. Derived from the well-established UltraVision® 3 software plateform, UltraVision TouchTM is the perfect companion to the TOPAZ and offers extended connectivity options. In addition to serving as an intuitive and powerful embedded user interface, UltraVision Touch can also be installed as a stand-alone software product on any Windows-based PC, allowing for remote data acquisition, remote data analysis and offline setup creation.
