NDT.net launched a Conference & Proceedings Web AppNDT.net113, Bad Breisig, Germany
An innovative Conference & Proceedings Web App for the area of NDT was developed by NDT.net. This App was launched for the first time for the NDT Canada 2014 conference, June 16-18, 2014. The Web App can be used through the Internet - The Cloud - from all smartphones, tablets, laptops etc. In addition the conference organizer can disseminate the Web App on DVD/USB to the participants for offline reading. The App offers convenient browsing of the agenda, exhibition, full proceedings, search capabilities and much more.
The key advantage of this new App is the integration of the proceedings in a conference information system and in general a much richer content than ever. Once established. conference attendees will be shifting eyeballs from Print to Digital in a few years from now. That big print program will be a dusty relic. Print programs won’t disappear, but they’ll sure be a lot thinner in the future.
Another reason for this App is that nowadays less people are coming to the conference with a laptop and for that reason the hand-out DVD or USB is not useful anymore for many people. However, almost everyone has a smartphone in their hand. Furthermore a Web App enables users of computers to access the content that cannot not be achieved by providing a native smartphone App.
NDT.net's Author submission system, so called Conference Management Cloud (CMC), serves as the data backbone for this App. Authors' submitted data and e-files of manuscript or powerpoint are available on the fly to the participants in the conference and in general for all on the Internet. However, to ensure quality content of the proceedings the editor has still the control over the content. Usually the App content is frozen after a final review just before the conference starts, however, the App provides an Event News Blog and the editor can update the content on demand.
NDT.net's CMC is already collecting the data of forthcoming conferences like ECNDT 2014 for the new App that serves multi-conferences at the same time. With this App, NDT.net is once again a pioneer in publishing services for the field of nondestructive testing and free of charge for the benefits for the NDT community.
A special thanks to the first Sponsor EXTENDE for this App and also thanks to CINDE for their ongoing cooperation in Open Access publishing.
