Volume Graphics, a provider of leading analysis and visualization software for industrial CT data, presented its new brand image at this year's Control trade show in Stuttgart. The brand promise "Enabling Better Products" summarizes Volume Graphics’ guiding principles concisely in three words. At Control, the company showed specific product innovations which make exactly that possible.


VGSTUDIO MAX, VGSTUDIO, VGMETROLOGY, VGinLINE, and myVGL: With the Volume Graphics product family, all kinds of analyses and visualizations can be carried out directly on data from industrial computed tomography (CT).

“Enabling better products has always been our goal. We have been developing our software for 20 years now,” says CEO Christof Reinhart. He continues: “While CT is a great tool for creating a precise and detailed digital picture of a product in one step, it’s the analysis and visualization functions of our software which make the information contained in the CT scan fully accessible. This is true not only for CT data, but for 3D data from other sources as well.”

At Control 2017, Volume Graphics provided an outlook on features that are already under development that will help customers to produce more efficiently, examine quality more extensively, and better manage the resulting data. Amongst others, the following features were shown:

  • Enhanced measuring/metrology functions:
    • New: Automatically recognize and fit geometry elements with a few mouse clicks
    • Enhanced handling of reference systems, including preview and new coordinate system type
  • New: torus geometry element
  • New: component geometry correction for automatic correction of the geometry of the target model (for example, a CAD model) based on deviations of the scanned actual component from the target model
  • Optimized defect analysis: more efficient, easier to use, better results
  • Further developed: enhanced porosity/inclusion analysis according to VDG rule P 202
  • New: import of textured meshes and colored point clouds for a more beautiful and meaningful representation of objects
  • New: drawing tool with upper and lower threshold values for easier segmentation even with fluctuating gray values
  • New: enveloping Region of Interest (ROI) for the specific analysis of near-surface properties
  • New: simulation of mechanical stress directly on the CT data of a part
  • New: database-based re-evaluation with the possibility of visual inspection, for example in the automated in-line testing of safety-relevant components in the automotive or aerospace industry
  • Further improved read and write performance in all applications
  • New: availability of the latest versions for macOS and Ubuntu in addition to Windows
