|According to the common regulations the annual verification of the PAUT instruments is mandatory and demanded by most users and owners of the said equipment. The standard ISO 18563-1 requires dealing with every channel of PA instrument as with an independent ultrasonic flaw detector thus beside the typical stuff such as oscilloscope, functional generator, attenuator, etc the verification lab is required to use the additional device (splitter) providing the access to every channel through the PA Probe terminal. Beside the quite high cost of the splitter the verification of PA stuff is very time consuming operation so the cost that the owners of PA instruments do pay annually is extremely high approaching to approximately 10% of the new unit price. In addition to the high net cost of the annual verification the owners of PAUT instruments should consider at least several days break when the unit is located at the verification lab, the both ends shipping time and cost, shipping insurance, and, sometimes, the customs delays in case of purchasing verification services from the laboratory abroad.
In order to ease the verification process and reduce the expenses of the instrument’s owners Sonotron NDT developed the new extremely portable ISONIC VERIFICATOR device comprising the functional generator, the digital oscilloscope, the attenuator, etc. The USB powered ISONIC VERIFICATOR is connected to the PA probe terminal and USB port of the instrument; for the verification of conventional channels ISONIC VERIFICATOR is equipped with the LEMO 00 sockets providing the ability of direct connection to the corresponding probe terminals via regular coaxial cables.
ISONIC VERIFICATOR is controlled by the special software application that may run either in the instrument or in an external computer so the verification procedure is implemented fully automatically providing all necessary functions required by MFG Specs according to ISO 18563-1 for the PA and EN 12668-1 for the conventional channels; the user may simply start the verification software routine in the unit plugged to the mains for charging the battery before leaving the office / laboratory at the end of the day and have the process completed by next morning: on completion the encrypted file comprising the verification results, the instrument ID (serial #), the RTC (real time clock), and the location (optionally) data is created. The said data is convertible into the verification report, which is composed automatically
