Composite manufacturing Airbus start-up is now part of TESTIA, an Airbus Company, complementing its portfolio of Aerostructures inspection services and products

As of September 19th 2018, InFactory Solutions has been incorporated into TESTIA, an Airbus Company, with a newly appointed Managing Director, Mr Mohamed Sayeh.

Created in 2016, InFactory Solutions specializes in in-process control for composite manufacturing with a focus on two major technologies:

AFP (Automated Fiber Placement) Monitoring
Using a high resolution laser sensor which is integrated directly into the lay-up head, this technology makes it possible to detect and characterize non-conformities in real-time, thus gaining efficiency and accuracy compared with traditional visual inspection. A sensor is currently being integrated on a fiber placement machine at Airbus’ Stade plant to validate the system in production.

CFF (Cure & Flow front) Monitoring
This system uses high frequency technology to obtain spatial information on the properties of composite parts through a wire sensor which can be several metres long and be imbedded into the part or tooling. Fields of application include resin flow measurements, cure monitoring and Structural Health Monitoring. The immediate gain consists of cost of non-quality reduction and reduced lead times.

David Rottembourg, Managing Director of TESTIA, an Airbus Company says: “ Of course complementing our offer to the benefit of our customers is the obvious rationale, but just as importantly we are welcoming unique competences and talents in the fields of machine learning, mechatronics and data analytics. ”

This acquisition is a strategic move for TESTIA, an Airbus Company as InFactory will add to its current portfolio focused on post-process control products and equipment. Thanks to this addition, TESTIA, an Airbus Company aims to ultimately correlate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) data with manufacturing data, enabling step changes in manufacturing process control. InFactory was originally a start-up nurtured by Airbus’ Chief Technology Office before its incorporation into the subsidiary TESTIA, an Airbus Company.

TESTIA, an Airbus Company was created in 1991 and specialises in Aircraft Structure Inspections and services. With a strong international network thanks to facilities in Europe, Asia and North America, TESTIA, an Airbus Company is the end-to-end NDT and Inspections provider. It offers a broad range of NDT and Quality Inspection Equipment for quick and efficient analysis of structures, components and assembly. TESTIA, an Airbus Company also trains and qualifies personnel in all NDT methods, at all qualification levels, as well as provide inspections, consultancy and engineering services.
