Quality Control of 3D Printed Parts - Seminar at the Fraunhofer Institute in DresdenYXLON International GmbH198, Hamburg, Germany
Around 50 participants participated in the technology seminar on quality control of additive-manufactured (3D printed) parts which was organized by Yxlon and the Fraunhofer Institut für Werkstoff- und Strahltechnik (IWS) in Dresden on May 15 and 16. The seminar was fully booked. In the 14 presentations - held by the hosts and top-class speakers from the automotive and aerospace industries as well as from various scientific institutes - processes, materials and applications of additive manufacturing were discussed focusing on the quality assurance aspect of 3D-printed parts. Among the speakers were reputable companies like Siemens, Volkswagen, Trumpf and BAM. Particular attention was paid to the talk of Dr. Thomas Bielefeld (Premium Aerotec) on the difficulties in the process qualification of printed metal parts for aviation.
During the visit to the Additive Manufacturing Center Dresden (AMCD), the two YXLON X-ray and CT systems MU2000 and FF35 CT were demonstrated and typical AM defects were shown in the 3D printed parts. At the end of the seminar, four participants used the opportunity to inspect the parts which they had brought with them to Dresden.
The participants praised the good mixture of theory and practice as well as the opportunity to exchange experiences in a pleasant atmosphere. The positive feedback is incentive for Yxlon and Fraunhofer IWS to invite interested parties to the technology seminar in Dresden next year.
