The company takes over MB Inspection Ltd, enhancing its international development

23rd January 2008 - Applus RTD announces today the acquisition of MB Inspection, UK market leader in non-destructive testing and inspection (NDT&I) for the oil and gas, chemical, power plants, and other related industries.

Applus RTD which is a leading global supplier of NDT, inspection and integrity management services completed the acquisition of MB Inspection Ltd on 23rd January 2008. Applus RTD is part of Applus+.

MB Inspection Ltd, until now a subsidiary of Motherwell Bridge, has over 25 years experience in the non-destructive testing and inspection business and has its headquarters in Falkirk, Scotland.

With turnover approaching €35 million a year and offices in Aberdeen, Falkirk, Stockton and Great Yarmouth, MB Inspection Ltd is well established in the UK and currently employs over 350 staff.

Under the direction of managing director Frank Ross and his team, MB Inspection Ltd has built up a robust UK-based business, with its own four sites supporting its activities on client sites across the UK. The company will undoubtedly benefit from being part of the Applus RTD Group.

Applus RTD is a long established company operating in a similar way around the world and is reinforcing its strategic presence in the UK. MB Inspection Ltd and Applus RTD are therefore extremely complementary. Applus RTD will make it’s technology and knowledge base available for the MBI operation in the UK.

Rob van Doorn, CEO of the Applus RTD Group, highlighted the strategic importance of this acquisition. “Our company is already worldwide leader in NDT and Inspection. To continue growing we needed to strengthen our presence in important areas like the UK. We are therefore very pleased to have MBI in our Group. The acquisition of MBI fits perfectly in our ambitious growth plans.

The Applus RTD Group is a very decentralised type of organisation which intends to work close to its customers. In all continents we have Business Units operating locally, but following RTD world standards in quality, safety, applications and technology. MBI will be integrated into the Applus RTD Group as a Business Unit.

We encourage local management to be full in charge of their operations, as a consequence we feel very confident that the management and employees of MB Inspection Ltd will feel at home in the Applus RTD Group.”
