Olympus NDT Introduces the EPOCH XT B-Scan Software Option

Olympus Scientific Solutions Americas (OSSA)239, Waltham, MA, USA

Waltham, MA, April 3, 2008 - Olympus NDT, a world leader in nondestructive testing technologies, announces the introduction of the B-scan software option for the EPOCH XT digital ultrasonic flaw detector. The addition of the B-scan software increases the versatility of the EPOCH XT for many applications, including the monitoring of internally corroded storage tanks, pipes, and other critical structures.

The B-scan software provides fully encoded, scanned thickness measurements with easy-to-read cross-sectional images. The EPOCH XT displays either a full B-scan view during scanning, or can display a split A-scan and B-scan view for measurement verification. The B-scan option provides readings at specific scan locations and the ability to automatically save A-scans for minimum thickness data or when triggered by alarm conditions.

The EPOCH XT and the B-scan software are compatible with many commercially available encoders or crawlers. The B-scan software boasts a fast scanning rate of up to 20 inches/sec (500 mm/sec), with a measurement resolution as thin as 0.020 inches (0.5 mm). The EPOCH XT has an internal storage capacity of over 100 B-scan files, each capable of containing up to 150,000 B-scan thickness readings. The software can also be used with other specialized measurement options, such as Floating Gate software for more consistent measurements, and the TVG Table function in immersion scan inspections. This B-scan software is also fully compatible with Olympus NDT's PC interface program, GageView Pro®. This powerful data management and reporting tool allows users to store and view B-scan and A-scan data on a PC after an inspection. GageView Pro has enhanced reporting capabilities for B-scans, including uncompressed and compressed scan views, scan statistics, individual thickness measurement data, and much more. GageView Pro also allows for direct report printing and full data export to spreadsheet programs.
