The advantage of this easy and reliable method is the outside coupling of the sensors around the pipes. They are able to detect whether there is a pig or only the product liquid right behind the wall.
Environmental risks due to dangerous holes in pipeline walls, as in systems with mechanical pig detectors, belong to the past.
The sensor does not reach the inside of the pipes. The installation is easy and can be carried out during line operations. The software which comes with the device helps to start the operation.
Since the ultrasonic sensor does not touch the liquids, there is practically no abrasion. The amount for maintenance is only small.
The sensors can be applied for pipe diameters between 8 and 60´´.
Compared to methods working with radiation sources, the ultrasonic method is non-hazardous. An effective electronic system, which is integrated within the measurement device, controls the frictionless operation, signalises the pig section and alarms in case of a failure.
The pig detector includes the following components: a sensor, a measurement device as well as a pipe fastener.
These devices have relay outputs, which can be integrated in process controls. Via further outputs it is possible to connect signal lamps and sirens as optional equipment.
The sensors are certified after ATEX.
