Computed tomography started as a medical imaging technique. Digital geometry processing is used to generate a three-dimensional image of an objects inside structure from a large series of two dimensional x-ray slices. The techniques name comes from the Greek tomos (slice) and graphein (to write). It is now in widespread use in aerospace, particularly for looking inside composite structures to check their integrity.
