Offers Easy and Intuitive Control

Billerica, MA, USA — February 23, 2009 —The new ERESCO MF4 series of portable X-ray units from GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies brings intuitive control, full graphic display and a menu-driven user interface to an already successful range of field-proven high power industrial X-ray tubes. Designed for reliability in some of the world’s toughest inspection conditions, the units in the new MF4 series are contained within a robust rugged housing including a protection cover and carrying grip. In addition, the range has been expanded with the addition of two new units: the ERESCO 65 MF4-W, a water-cooled 300kV version for high duty cycles under tight environmental conditions, especially where there are limitations on heat dissipation; and the 280kV ERESCO 280 MF4, which is available in air- or water-cooled versions, designed for radioscopic inspections with high energy demand.

As Martin Sauerschnig, product manager for X-ray equipment, comments, “Our customers have been the prime motivators behind the introduction of the new MF4 series. We have listened to what they have told us and incorporated many of their comments at the design stage. The result is a range of portable X-ray systems which are simple to control and offer excellent penetration and short exposures to facilitate higher productivity in day-to-day inspection routines.”

The heart of the innovation of the MF4 series is the new control module. This offers intuitive operation and highly visible, full graphic, trans-reflective display, with on-board exposure calculator and menu-driven setup and operation. It can be conveniently operated in a number of user-selected positions. There is constant monitoring and display of temperature, pressure and mains voltage. Event logging and interpretation is shown on the graphical user interface, which also guides users through selected setup or inspection procedures, as well as through fault correction processes. Important features of the previous MF3 control module, such as the capacity to store up to 250 exposure programs, a real time clock and automatic recognition of the connected X-ray tube head, have been retained and even enhanced. Additional features such as off-line programming or off-line evaluation, in conjunction with a PC-based application (MF4 administrator kit), enable operators to use the ERESCO MF4 Control as an efficient tool for inspection planning, reporting and evaluation.

MF4 series X-ray tubes offer all the acknowledged features and benefits of the MF3 series. They use constant potential, medium frequency technology to generate stable penetration power and they can be operated in power mode to reduce exposure times. They employ metal ceramic tubes for durability and robustness and insulation is by gas rather than oil to reduce the overall tube weight. High quality electronic components, robust design and IP 65 certification fit all ERESCO series systems for operation in wet conditions and ensure highest duty cycle operation under ambient temperatures at 30°C and above.

A number of additional accessories is now included within the MF4 specification. These include a telescope-centering device to ensure simple alignment, a transport and positioning cart and an adapter cable to allow an MF4 control unit to be connected with an MF3 X-ray tube, ensuring backwards compatibility.
