GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies Provides Ultrasonic Inspection Solution to China High-Speed Rail Wheel Manufacturer

Mr. Zhiyuan Shen, vice general manager of the Wheel and Axle division of TYHI, said, "We have high expectations of the cooperation prospects with GE. For this project, GE offered TYHI a turnkey ultrasonic inspection solution. This system solution, based on phased array technology, was specially developed for railway applications and remains one of the most sophisticated solutions in the world for express train wheel inspections. In this system, two phased array probes are utilized to realize the inspection of the wheel from the tread surface to the rim surface.

The system is the most efficient solution for express train wheel inspections. The inspection of the whole wheel can be completed in one rotation. It takes one minute to finish the inspection of the entire wheel, including the wheel handling time. The phased array probes can be easily adjusted for the inspection of a variety of wheels, greatly improving the efficiency of the process and reducing the inspection cost.

Taiyuan Heavy Industry Co., Ltd is the only manufacturing base in China that currently produces both wheel, axle and wheel sets. To meet the fast growing demand of China's railway construction, TYHI is actively involved in the development of hi-speed rail axles and wheels.
