Volkswagen AG, Europe's largest manufacturer of automobiles, is banking increasingly on computed tomography and has now decided for the third time in favor of a CT system from YXLON.

Following two Y.CT Modular computed tomograph systems that are being successfully deployed overseas, yet another system is now supposed to suppport development and production in Germany. The system is going to be used for the detailed inspection of engine parts in the Physical Laboratory at the Volkswagen factory in Salzgitter.

The CT system tailored to match customer specifications is equipped with 450 kV, the FXE microfocus system, a line and a flat-panel detector.

A particularly high image quality is achieved due to the YXLON line LDA. The large-area flat-panel detector provides for rapid scans, and with an output of 450 kV, even solid parts can be tomographed extraordinarily quickly. Extremely high resolutions are made a reality with the FXE microfocus system. In the process, TXI assures unusually high dose stability in order to attain optimum image quality.

The stable, hard-rock manipulator built into this system is measured via state-of-the-art laser technology. High-grade components and precise alignments provide for long-lasting accuracies and a high degree of reproduceability.

A broad spectrum of inspection items can be covered using Y.CT Modular. The CT system can be upgraded and easily adapted to new requirements as a result of its modular construction design. That makes Y.CT Modular an assured investment for the future.

In existence since 1969, the Volkswagen factory in Salzgitter manufactures around half of all engines within the corporate group. Roughly 164 different types of engines are produced here.

About YXLON International GmbH
YXLON International GmbH, a leading supplier of industrial X-ray inspection systems and computed tomography (CT) solutions for the non-destructive testing of materials (NDT), is an innovative high-tech company with a wealth of tradition. YXLON has been a member company of COMET Holding AG (Switzerland) since 2007. The COMET Feinfocus business unit in Garbsen (near Hanover, Germany) became affiliated with the YXLON group in the course of acquisition. By doing so YXLON is now able to cover the increasing demand for X-ray and computed tomography solutions in the microfocus sector, for example the way they are being used in the electronics industry.

With its headquarters in Hamburg (Germany), several subsidiaries and a tight network of agents aligned all over the world, YXLON supplies solutions for any production process, but also for service and maintenance applications, whether in shipbuilding, pipeline and vessel construction, the automotive industry, aerospace and aviation, or for microfocus inspection in the electronics industry.

The product portfolio includes microfocus as well as conventional X-ray and CT technologies. It ranges from portable systems constructed for on-site application in the field to standardized modular solutions, complex, fully automated as well as customer-specified solutions, all the way to Feinfocus microfocus X-ray and µCT systems.
