Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) developed and fielded a number of NDE sensor system technologies for the pipeline, power, infrastructure and aerospace industries.

The magnetostrictive sensor (MsS) technology provides a long-range, guided wave inspection capability for detection of corrosion under insulation in piping, defects in plate structure, defects in bridge cables, inspection of heat exchanger tubing, and inspection of anchor rods. The MsS inspection system consists of magnetostrictive sensor and a small instrument that is USB interfaced to a laptop computer. The senor is low cost, low profile, inexpensive, and robust.

The remote field eddy current technology was used in conjunction with a special robot to inspect previously unpiggable pipelines. SwRI developed a 48 channel eddy current instrument that had to fit within the pipeline ID.

For the pressure vessel inspection industry, SwRI developed a high speed, large data storage data acquisition and analysis package (EDAS) for up to eight channels.
