The 11th International Symposium on NDT in Aerospace to be held at Saclay near Paris/France during November 13 to 15, 2019 will introduce for the first time a so called Student Challenge. Up to 8 teams with 2 to 4 members each will be allowed to register currently until April 15th 2019 (date most likely to be extended to May 1st, 2019) and will then receive a specially shaped CFRP component, which contains typical flaws occurring during manufacturing as well as a bond due to degrade during operation. The teams are asked to develop a concept on how to detect the flaws and to monitor degradation of the bond.
The inspection and monitoring concept is due to be presented at the symposium in a special session hopefully even with live demonstrations. An international jury represented by experts from academia, industry and the younger researcher generation will assess each team in terms of the approach taken, the detecability achieved and the presentation made. The winning team will get their participation fees and accommodation cost for the symposium waived. Those not winning will still take advantage of the huge student fee reduction (250 € instead of 750 €).
Further details can be found on the symposium website www.ndt-aerospace2019.com (scroll to the bottom), where competition rules will also be continuously updated.
