PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., Dec 14, 2011 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- Mistras Group, Inc. /quotes/zigman/568029/quotes/nls/mg MG -0.06% has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide traditional and advanced Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) services by The Shaw Group. The facility, which will utilize Westinghouse AP1000(R) technology, is part of a planned expansion of the Plant Vogtle nuclear generation station in Waynesboro, Ga. Called Vogtle Units 3 and 4, the services will support the inspection requirements of the first new nuclear units awarded in the U.S. in the last three decades. Project owners include Georgia Power (45.7 percent), Oglethorpe Power Corporation (30 percent), Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (22.7 percent) and Dalton Utilities (1.6 percent).
In April 2009, Georgia Power, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southern Co., provided the Shaw-Westinghouse partnership full notice to proceed with Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 construction. Georgia Power Company expects the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to approve its combined license application in the near future. The units are scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2016-2017.
The NDE Services include Radiographic Testing (RT) Gamma and X-Ray (including Digital and Computed Radiography), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT) and Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT).
