Jireh Industries Releases Motorized Weld and Corrosion Mapping Scanner

Jireh Industries14, Ardrossan, Alberta, Canada

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA, February, 2013: Jireh has developed a new motorized scanning system to assist with AUT inspections. The Navic is designed to carry probes in both weld scanning and raster scanning applications. The remote operated, steerable scanning platform is capable of circumferential scans from 70mm (2 3/4”) minimum OD to flat surfaces.

The Navic, configured for weld scanning, can carry up to 6 probes on circumferential pipe/tube girth weld scans or larger tank and vessel weld scans. Steerable operation of the crawler allows the operator to manually track a weld if necessary, and scan subsequent welds without removing the crawler from the inspection surface. A low profile probe holding solution is available, allowing the Navic to maintain a radial clearance of 70mm (2.75”) on pipes under 200mm (8”) OD and 81.5 mm (3.2”) on pipes over 200mm (8”) OD. Longitudinal scanning is possible with the Navic on surfaces ranging from 300mm (12”) OD to flat, and down to 600mm (24”) ID.

A motorized Y-axis raster arm can be attached to the Navic crawler, to assist with 2-axis automated scans such as corrosion mapping. Equipped with the motorized raster arm, the Navic can travel in the scan direction on OD’s ranging from 150mm (6”) to flat, and down to 600mm (24”) ID.

Jireh Industries designs and manufactures manual and motorized scanners to assist with non-destructive testing in the oil & gas, power generation, and aerospace industries. With more than 25 years in the precision machining and production industry, Jireh's experience has led to the development of a comprehensive product line featuring scanners used for the inspection of pipes, vessels, boiler tubes, tanks, and more.
