Front Illuminated FFT-CCD for X-Ray ImagingHamamatsu Photonics32, Hamamatsu-city, Japan
Hamamatsu Photonics introduce the new S8984-02, a 2 megapixel full frame transfer CCD image sensor designed specifically for X-ray imaging.
The S8984-02 is supplied with a fibre optic plate (FOP) attached to the faceplate of the image sensor. The end user is then able to apply a scintillator film of their choice to the FOP based on their imaging requirements. To increase the resistance to X-ray irradiation, the FOP thickness has been increased to 10mm compared to the existing S8984 that uses a 1.5mm FOS screen. This greatly improves the overall CCD lifetime under exposure.
The CCD is a 1700 x 1200 pixel device with 20µm square pixels. Along with 100% fill factor and low dark signal achieved with MPP operation, the CCD can offer a high 12-bit dynamic range. Additionally, an X-ray monitoring photodiode is incorporated into the package.
This new sensor is ideally suited for X-ray non-destructive imaging as well as any general X-ray imaging applications.
