Air Coupled Ultrasonic Inspection Technique For the air coupled ultrasonic inspection technique (contact-free, no couplant necessary, no wetting of the specimen) new 8-fold array probes for different frequencies (120, 200, and 300 kHz) are available now (see figures 1-2). They reduce the inspection time of a 1 m² specimen from 28 minutes to 4 minutes. With our new ultra-low-noise amplifier AirTech 4050 the signal-to-noise ratio of our probes can be increased up to 4 dB. The amplifier can be integrated in the case of the probes AirTech 50-R, AirTech 75-R, AirTech 120-R, AirTech 200-R, AirTech 225-R and AirTech 300-R. Typical results with the 300 kHz probe AirTech 300-R for a 5.3 mm CFRP inspection are shown in figure 4.
