It has been an exceptional year as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of COFREND’s creation, and benefited from a very rich program with many events organised at the same time. This year was also marked by the presence of delegations from the USA, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Korea and India.
During the opening ceremony, introduced by our President, François Champigny, we had the honour to welcome Professor Mathias Fink, member of the Academy of Sciences, who gave a remarkable plenary presentation on the topic “Time reversal and innovation”. The ceremony ended with the inauguration of the exhibitors’ village where more than 80 exhibitors were gathered over 3000 m², a number never reached before (30 % more than the previous edition in 2014). Almost all the NDE actors were present: equipment suppliers, service providers, R&D specialists…; the exhibition was thus a clear demonstration of expertise and competencies in all the NDE methods, with a specific promotion of the last technological developments in probes and imaging.
Three very much appreciated scientific plenary conferences on highly topical subjects: “The internet of objects and structural health monitoring”, “Big Data - Artificial Intelligence” and “Additive manufacturing”, introduced more than 130 scientific presentations of an excellent and most interesting level. A doctorands’ poster session was the opportunity to promote the most recent technical developments in the field of NDE: the posters of the 18 doctorands competing for the Claude Birac –COFREND prize, were all of a very high level and the jury found difficulties in making a choice. The winners, 3 doctorands from the CEA Tech List, received their prize during the special Anniversary gala dinner: a friendly and convivial event during which the participants could examine the numerous photos in the album of COFREND’s 50 years, published on that occasion.
During the Open Day on the topic “NDE, training, a profession, a job”, organised with the support of the Large East ONISEP and the Nancy- Metz Academy, more than 250 students were welcomed and could thus discover the NDE sector, the existing training sessions, the professions and the industries involved, through conferences, workshops and a visit of the exhibition. The panel discussion on certification conducted by the Certification Hub brought together more than 80 participants who debated on the important question of anticipating the future of certification.
A good hundred participants were interested in the visits of Safran and EDF industrial sites.
Many thanks to all those who took part in the organisation and the success of these Days:
Many thanks to all the participants for their active presence: an appointment has been made in 2020 for the next edition of the COFREND Days!
Mireille RAPIN, (Areva Intercontrôle) President of the Events and Communication Hub
