Portable smart ultrasonic flaw detectors fully control the automatic immersion ultrasonic testing process

Sonotron NDT’s portable smart ultrasonic flaw detectors and recorders ISONIC 3505 (single channel) and ISONIC 3507 (dual channel) introduced in 2016 have been equipped now with the new functionality of the high productivity and performance automatic immersion ultrasonic testing (IUT) system providing not only pulsing, receiving and digitizing of ultrasonic signals but also the control of all motors and encoders involved into the scanning process, capturing raw data and on-the-fly mapping and imaging.

The motors are controlled through one of instrument’s USB terminals whilst the encoder data may be taken either through the same terminal or in more rapid way through the hardware incremental encoder port extended with the ability of working with several encoders simultaneously. Thanks to the 24-bit analogue-to-digital conversion the A-Scans are captured over 140 dB dynamic range whilst implementing pulse echo, back echo attenuation or through transmission inspection with the use of single or dual element probes or a pair of probes per channel.

The comprehensive on-board postprocessing allows:

  • Play Back and Evaluation of the captured A-Scans
  • Off-Line Gain Manipulation over Entire Dynamic Range
  • Defects reject and sizing at the desired sensitivity level
  • SAFT-based image processing
  • Polygoning and statistical analysis
  • 3D imaging
  • etc

The use of an external computer controlling the instrument through Ethernet / Intranet / Internet is also possible with the use of the same software that runs in the instrument thanks to the UT over IP feature of all instruments manufactured by Sonotron NDT
