PAUT: Rapid Detection and Evaluation of the Fatigue Cracks in the Web-to-Outboard End Pad Fillet Radius at Lower Wing Attach of an Aircraft

Sonotron NDT71, Rehovot, Israel

According to the “An Overview of Standardized Capability for US Air Force Inspections” lecture delivered during recent 19th WCNDT in Munich and published by NDT.NET the fatigue cracks may appear in the web-to-outboard end pad fillet radius at lower wing attach of an aircraft.

The rapid inspection of the said area and evaluation of the cracks may be performed based on the procedure created with the use of Sonotron NDT portable ultrasonic phased array (PA) flaw detectors of ISONIC series (ISONIC 3510, ISONIC 2010, ISONIC 2009). The ISONIC EXPERT FILLET SW application initially created for the inspection of fillet, Tee-, TKY- welds, and the like, which was found fully suitable for the said inspection task, should run in the instrument. The principles of the inspection and the advantages gained during 4 years since the procedure was entered in use by some clients are present by the video below.
