Short Range Guided Wave Inspection – Annular Rings with Narrow Outer Chime

Sonotron NDT70, Rehovot, Israel

The highly demanded short range guided waves inspection (SRUT GW) of annular rings in the above ground storage tanks may be implemented with use of conventional or PA modality through scanning above the surface of outer chime.

Comparing to the conventional modality based on the use of special single or dual element probes the PA modality carries the extended applicability: it may occur that the outer chime is very narrow for the use of single or dual element SRUT GW probes - if this is a case then the conventional modality is not applicable; the PA modality remains the only applicable solution thanks to the

  • smaller footprint of the wedged linear array PA probe
  • the ability of controlling the signal entry area electronically
The video below illustrates the case.
