Smart System Integration with AXT

YXLON International AS20, Taastrup, Denmark

Dyno Nobel Asia-Pacific has been manufacturing detonators at the site for 30 years and currently produce about 7.5 million units every year. They have been using radiographic X-ray inspection for failure analysis for more than 12 years, and when it was time to upgrade, they replaced their aging system with a SMART EVO system.

AXT Pty Ltd, the dedicated YXLON Copenhagen distributor in Australia, supplied a SMART EVO 160D radiographic system to Dyno Nobel Asia-Pacific, one of the top Australian manufacturers of detonators for the mining industry.

The EVO 160D resides in the laboratory at Dyno Nobel’s premises near Toowoomba in Queensland. It is primarily being used to examine failed components, and the information it supplies is critical in determining how a fault has occurred and how best to deal with the detonator.

When asked about the new SMART EVO 160D system and why they chose it, Facility Manager Neil Hopkinson replied; “Two factors influenced our decision. The systems compact size and ability to fit into our existing inspection enclosure was essential. The power was also important, and in this case, we specifically needed a system which also can operate efficiently in a low kV range as most of our work is carried out at low kV”.

Neil elaborates; “Since installing the system, some additional features has proved to be handy, in particular, the user-friendly and intuitive nature of the system, and the ability to store program-settings make it ideal for multiple users to operate.”

Dyno Nobel’s operation includes nine trained operators, and with such a large number of operators, ease of use and the ability to recall stored protocols through the SMART EVO controller is a real operational benefit.
