Restoring a masterpieceIn the last issue of Impulse, we introduced the art restoration studio ARRS and the way in which they are using radiographic techniques from Applus RTD in their restoration work in the Palace of Peace in The Hague, the Netherlands, on a large three-piece ceiling panel that dates from the 17th century.
Keeping an eye on progress
At every stage of the restoration process on Gérard de Lairesse's masterpiece, a careful video record has been maintained. This not only gives all involved the opportunity to study techniques and processes, plus the results which they obtain, but also to give a wider audience a greater insight into the secret world' of the art restorer. One of the specialists involved in the project, Milko den Leeuw has now made this fascinating insight available. Like the nearly 70,000 people who have already accessed the videos on the website www.triomfdervrede.nl readers will find it interesting to see how the world of NDT technology can be applied in such a specialized field.
