This article describes the online communication services that internet provides for the NDT sector and differentiates between two main approaches: the mass approach and the targeted/thematic approach. In today’s world, online communication is a key factor for the enhancement of success on many different levels; individuals, professionals, corporations or institutions may all have different and yet for the reason of communication. Communication takes place on many different levels and through many different websites online. The internet presents an open meeting point where individuals, of private and professional background, freely exchange ideas and knowledge, where corporations inform about their company and products through marketing and public relations and where employees and employers get together. There are uncountable websites wheresuch communication can be done. Professional networks allow cross-sectorial interaction of individuals and corporations. Discussion forums are a place for further education, support and discussion. Knowledge transfer is provided by open access articles and proceedings. Education is provided through webinars. Job websites simplify the connection between employers and potential employees and many other services nowadays provide cloud applications for shared data and improved team collaboration. The majorities of available internet services are focused on one specific demand and serve a broad mass. The opposite approach is a targeted one, where one website is entirely created for a specific sector and offers a variety of services. Looking at the NDT sector, the targeted approach allows professionals within the NDT sector to use many different of the above mentioned functions within one website. Without jumping between websites, professionals can connect with professionals from NDT, find desired data and knowledge related to NDT, seek and offer jobs in the NDT sector and follow discussions that relate to the NDT themes in one single website. Instead of jumping between websites to satisfy the different demands, the targeted or thematic approach provides a space that is created specifically for the NDT sector on the concept: "One sector, one website, many services". Generally, the mass approach is beneficial for cross-sectoral interaction, while the targeted/thematic approach is beneficial for sector-specific interaction.
