10th Symposium - Welding in Shipbuilding and Construction EngineeringGermanischer Lloyd AG4, Hamburg, Germany
Hamburg, 20 January 2009 - Higher structures, larger ships, more sophisticated steel constructions - welding technology is constantly confronted with new challenges. Complex welded structures call for new designs, materials, welding techniques and test concepts. The latest solutions and research results in welding technology will be presented at the 10th symposium "Welding in Shipbuilding and Construction Engineering". This symposium will take place on 22 and 23 April 2009 in Hamburg.
The agenda includes ten lectures by experts in the areas of business, science and industry. Increased limits of application for high-tensile steels in modern steel constructions will be discussed along with concepts for the prevention of brittle fractures. Suitable evaluation concepts will be presented on this topic.
In addition to the possibilities and limits of application of these high-tensile steels in shipbuilding, the lectures featured in this symposium will also pick up on the latest developments in the fracture mechanical concepts under the specific shipbuilding basic conditions. For instance, how residual gaps can be measured using ultrasonic testing methods will be discussed in the thematic block "Non-destructive testing". In this regard, attention will be focussed particularly on the possibilities of phased array technology and evaluation concepts for faulty weld seams.
The block "Fabrication in Shipbuilding" highlights topics such as mobile laser repair welding on propulsion chains in ships, high-performance plasma arc welding as well as welding stainless steel with reference to fastening technology. Furthermore, lectures will be held on special structures. Experts will lecture on foundation constructions for offshore wind energy plants and the fabrication of structures from steel with a large wall thickness.
v Experts have been coming together since 1999 in order to present the latest insights and innovations from welding technology and to exchange ideas. In recent years, the symposium "Welding in Shipbuilding and Construction Engineering" has established itself as the link between industry and science.
The organisers of this two-day event are Germanischer Lloyd, Schweißtechnische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Nord (SLV Nord) and Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und Verfahren e.V. (DVS).
The lectures will be held in German language.
